 
Vintage Etching by John McGrath of Baltimore - France Buvette
 Small vintage etching by listed artist John McGrath that depicts the working class French drawing water from a public fountain. The image is moderately toned and measures 4 1/4" by 5". It is signed in pencil by the artist and is currently in a worn black 10 X 10 frame. The translation of the French word Buvette can refer to a drinking fountain serving spring water or natural mineral water. This etching is not dated but might be from the early part of his career when he studied in France.
The Baltimore artist John McGrath studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Paris at the Académie Julian and Académie Colarossi. He was active in the Watercolor Club and the Charcoal Club, two Baltimore art groups. McGrath had the opportunity to show Etta Cone his work in 1931 and she selected 16 prints and two watercolors. McGrath was now able to say that his work was included in the Cone Collection at The Baltimore Museum of Art.
